The making of…
Easy Living Food, like a lot of Noel and Natalie’s food, really is a home grown affair, born out of numerous requests from some of the thousands of class participants over years of developing and improving some of the best raw recipes ever.
Eventually when the timing was right a team was pulled together and production started. Recipes were developed in Natalie and Noel’s kitchen and when perfect, photographed by Noel in their home made studio, in the dinning room! At night they would recess to what used to be a lounge, but now a production office, to write and plan the following days work.
After many months of hard work, and a lot of fun, the book content was moving ahead well and it was time to turn the attention the design. Sue Reid of Mercury Moon and also Natalie’s Sister was the natural choice for graphic designer, being familiar with the needs and being a super excellent designer too.
Funds needed to be raised to keep the whole production on track and a carefully orchestrated crowd funding campaign was launched to the greater earthshine community and beyond. The campaign was ambitious, to raise R150,000 in just 6 weeks. In a bold and unique move, it was decided to run the campaign from their own local website in Rand, without the use of one of the typical crown funding partners. This involved some clever IT customisation and extra work from the team, but the result was worth it, the community of class participants, customers and friends all pulled in and pre-ordered (and paid for) hundreds of books up front. This allowed Natalie and Noel to keep working and all the production costs to be met timeously.
